Local Law Enforcement
Approximately fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement report they were notified late on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then found multiple other smeared vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police say initial examinations show the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; investigators are currently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
Local authorities announced they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the community for information.
A high-ranking representative said the vandalism left him without words and needed to be solved promptly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right attack in 2020," he wrote on online, referring to the murder of nine people by a shooter aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
