Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Party

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative including angels, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Revealing details for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will split off from the central cast to undertake their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

With 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.

This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before splitting into three separate parties: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

According to the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for participants who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might seem out of place, but the actions of the latest installment make it clear why these five characters are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the group understands precisely where to head next after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose death kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his own means, invading the secret base, striking Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.

Casimir then cleared his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each adventurer has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the companion and trusted friend, wants revenge.
  • Kattigan has experience in the region and cautions that it is a hostile place.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could enable the party access locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter vowed a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that rule Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and Wicander betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This means them little choice but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

Based on episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the other eight players to round up the Explorers and Planners groups.

Viewers can look forward to finding out which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
